Google Analytics tells you that 68% of users abandon the cart. But not why: is the shipping-cost notice shown too late? Does the payment field break on mobile? Do customers miss the “Buy” button? Without those answers you are optimising blind.
The solution: Microsoft Clarity – natively integrated into Shopware
Microsoft Clarity is a completely free analytics tool by Microsoft with session recordings, heatmaps and click analysis. Our plugin connects Clarity cleanly to Shopware 6 – including cookie consent, automatic page-type detection and complete funnel tracking. Without any manual tag setup.
Features at a glance
Session recordings
Watch real customer sessions as video – every click, scroll and hesitation in the checkout.
Heatmaps
Click and scroll heatmaps reveal what really gets attention on product, category and checkout pages.
Funnel tracking
16+ e-commerce events – from product view to purchase – land automatically as Clarity events.
GDPR-compliant
Integrated into Shopware’s native cookie consent. No tracking without consent, clean cookie removal on withdrawal.
No coding
Install the plugin, enter your Clarity project ID, done. No theme changes, no Google Tag Manager.
Prioritised recordings
Checkout and purchase sessions are prioritised for recording via upgrade() – your most valuable sessions are never lost.
Complete e-commerce funnel tracking
Unlike a plain script embed, the plugin sends the entire purchase journey to Clarity as structured events. That lets you filter recordings by, for example, “users with a cart value > €100 who abandoned at checkout”:
- Discovery: view_item, view_item_list, view_search_results, search
- Cart: add_to_cart, remove_from_cart, update_cart_item, apply_coupon
- Wishlist: add_to_wishlist, remove_from_wishlist
- Checkout: begin_checkout, add_shipping_info, add_payment_info
- Completion: purchase (incl. order value, currency, item count)
- Account: login, sign_up
Each event carries relevant custom tags – such as product_price, cart_value, payment_type or transaction_value – that you can use directly as filters inside Clarity.
GDPR-compliant through real consent management
- Clarity appears automatically in the Shopware cookie banner under the “Statistics” group.
- Uses Clarity’s modern
consentv2API – advertising storage (ad_Storage) stays always disabled, analytics-only usage. - Two loading modes: load the script immediately (cookies only after consent) or load the script only after consent (maximum privacy).
- On withdrawal, all Clarity cookies are actively deleted.
How the setup works
- Buy the plugin in the Shopware Store and install & activate it under “Extensions”.
- Create a free Microsoft Clarity project and copy the project ID.
- Paste the project ID into the plugin settings and choose your consent mode.
- Check the storefront – within minutes the first recordings appear in Clarity.
Compatibility
Compatible with Shopware 6.5, 6.6 and 6.7. Works with the default storefront theme and most custom themes thanks to robust DOM fallbacks for event capture. German and English admin interface.

Is Microsoft Clarity really free?
Yes. Microsoft Clarity is a free tool with no traffic limit. You only pay for the Shopware plugin that integrates Clarity cleanly and GDPR-compliantly into your shop.
Is it GDPR-compliant?
The plugin is built for GDPR compliance: consent integration, analytics-only usage with no advertising storage, and active cookie deletion on withdrawal. For fully compliant operation, add Clarity to your privacy policy and sign the data processing agreement with Microsoft.
Do I need Google Tag Manager?
No. The plugin embeds Clarity directly and server-side and delivers all e-commerce events out of the box – no tag manager needed.
Does tracking affect load time?
The Clarity script loads asynchronously and does not block rendering. Optionally, load it only after consent has been given.
